A Fantastic Freebie on a Terrific Tuesday!

Hey everybody!  This post won't be long and if you read the whole thing, there is a freebie in it for you! Also, I've had several people ask about my enVisions word wall words. I'm working on it ladies!

If you know me well, you know that my brain N.E.V.E.R. shuts off (my second grade team is giggling and nodding their heads right now...they might even be uttering audible "uh-huh's" right now).  Thanks to my ever thinking brain, I have been working on my plans for the first few weeks.  In math, I'm going to spend the first week easing into math, but during the second week, I plan to do a ten frame mini unit with my kiddos.

I will be using a variety of materials, including my own {which is on sale through Wednesday}, to teach/review ten frames.  In planning this unit out, I decided I wanted to use some workmats so that the kids can create and build their own models of different numbers.  I have some ten frame masters at work but they are not as cute as I'd like (translation: blank frames on a blank piece of paper).  So, I sat down and whipped together some ten frame workmats that are cute, and worth hanging on to.  Here's what I came up with.

Yikes, are you blinded by the glare?  Sorry!  Glare aside, this mat is more like it.  It's bright and cheerful, yet simple and highly functional at the same time!

I was a bit worried about printing them out; but I was amazed at how little ink it actually took.  I printed out 25 of the pink double frames pictured above, knowing that I was running low on ink (my yellows and greens weren't printing well at that point) and they turned out great!  I printed them on white cardstock and then laminated them for extra durability.  I trimmed off the excess white border-not cute.

I made both single and double ten frame mats, and I'm offering them to you as a freebie (keep reading)!  The download contains two versions of each workmat (different colors/patterns).  The spaces on the mats are large enough to cover using a quarter (you could even go slightly larger).  I plan to use a variety of manipulatives when we use these.  I was thinking: plastic coins, circle counters, unifix cubes, buttons, and/or teddy bear counters.  Got any other fun suggestions?

And, finally, your reward for reading this entire post: your freebie!  I hope you like it.

Please leave feedback on TpT if you choose to use them; and, if you have some fun suggestions for manipulatives please leave those below. I would love to hear your creative ideas!!

Toodles!

  1. Thank you for this! I am always scrambling for ten frame work mats and usually end up just drawing one with a sharpie on a blank piece of paper (ugly!!!) I am going to print these out and laminate them and have them handy! Thank you! :)
